In the investigation i am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small large pieces of marble chips calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid per minute. Furthermore the controlled variables volume of hydrochloric acid and the mass of marble chips were maintained throughout the experiment by using a funnel to pour the hydrochloric acid from a measuring cylinder to a conical flask to confirm there was no spillage and that the acid measured 30ml. Marble chips react with dilute hydrochloric acid to produce carbon dioxide gas.
